As promised by the Federal Government in April last year, the notorious Temporary Work (Skilled) subclass 457 visa for migrants sponsored by an employer has been replaced by the Temporary Skills Shortage (TSS)(subclass 482) visa, which has a two-year stream and a four-year stream. The change occurred in March 2018.
Because engineering occupations are only listed on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), only the four-year visa is available for engineering migrants who are sponsored for this visa by an employer. Applications for permanent residency can be made after three years in the four-year visa stream.
